Independent VLAN Learning involves learning based on MAC Address + VLAN tag. In other words, in an IVL-capable switch, there is a separate database for each created VLAN. If a given individual MAC Address is learned in one VLAN, then that learned information is not used in forwarding decisions taken for that address relative to any other VLAN. This ensures effective segmentation of the network.
