Video Surveillance (CCTV)
Utility companies perform visual inspection on a regular basis to determine the condition of the systems, perform fault location or for security purposes. Most often, the harsh conditions through which the pipelines/power lines/railways pass makes it infeasible to have manned stations at these places. Hence, the human interaction with the equipment at such places needs to be minimized.

The primary requirements therefore, for video surveillance are support for Ethernet transport and switching, and adequate redundancy to ensure that there is no disruption in the transport.

Ethernet Flows
Like SCADA, the Ethernet traffic from CCTVs is also continuous in nature, and hence it is important that Virtual flows be set-up through the transmission network. However, since the traffic from each CCTV can be mapped to a VC-12 at each node itself, the flow can be taken care of by transparently transmitting this VC-12 to the edge node. The edge node would multiplex the Ethernet traffic from the various CCTV nodes and hand this data over to the CCTV server over a Fast Ethernet interface. Again, the source node of CCTV can be identified either based on source MAC address or VLAN identifier.

Fault detection
Since CCTVs are mostly located at unmanned locations, the fault detection and isolation abilities of the transmission network assumes significance. At each of these stations, the Tejas Network Management System (TejNMS) Provides for 'Ethernet Link Integrity’, which sends back an alarm the moment a break in the link is detected through the surveillance camera. For faults that occur in the networks itself, the fault sectionalization abilities of SDH would take care of any faults in the transmission network. TejNMS also provides for Dry Alarm Contact that transparently sends back non-SCADA Alarms like those from the air-conditioning, CCTV etc.
