Support for Ethernet OAM |
Tejas products support advanced Ethernet OAM (Operations, Administration & Maintenance) capabilities, like Ethernet in the First Mile OAM (EFM-OAM, IEEE802.3ah) and Connectivity Fault Management (CFM-OAM, IEEE 802.1ag). While SDH protection suffices in cases where there is a link break, it cannot detect errors where Ethernet flows are corrupted though the link is still up and running. Hence, Ethernet OAM features are required to ensure that OAM can also be provided at the Ethernet layer.
If an Ethernet service flow is disturbed, and it is important to quickly isolate the fault using CFM and check the faulty Ethernet switch. This is especially important in scenarios where the Service Provider is offering services with hard SLAs (Service Level Agreements). Whether it be hard-SLA Enterprise services or residential IP-TV services, Ethernet OAM allow a Service Provider to offer truly carrier-class data services at all times.
