Lower Bandwidth costs through Statistical Multiplexing |
Wire line bandwidth in the metro is expensive. Triple-play, Enterprise services, Cable backhaul, and several other applications compete with Cellular Services backhaul for Metro bandwidth. Ethernet Switching functionality on Next Generation-SDH/SONET enables Service Providers to build Ethernet switching/aggregation functionality into their networks. This enables bandwidth sharing between the various base stations. With this solution, the Service Provider can aggregate data traffic from each user into one common bandwidth pool. Aggregation could result in 30-40% bandwidth efficiency for Service Providers.
