As networks evolve from all TDM to all packet while simultaneously needing to offer higher bandwidth, Service Providers have to deal with a unique challenge of supporting old services such as DS1, E1, DS3 as per the existing contracts with customers, and offering new services such as GE, 10GE, GPON etc from the same network. These challenges are further exacerbated by the fact that not all customers can be reached by traditional copper or fiber media and Service Providers have to often use fixed wireless technologies such as WiMax (now abandoned), fixed LTE, TV Whitespace etc.
In addition, various networking protocols are being considered for packet evolution, such as MPLS-TP, VLAN with Ethernet protection schemes such as Y.1731, 802.1ag, and seamless MPLS.
Foreseeing this trend, and learning from previous trends that typically many different technologies persist in the network for a long time (such as SDH/SONET, ATM, FR), Tejas embarked on a two tier strategy to be always able to offer the platform the Service Providers desires in the network and being able to evolve the platform as needed and at the same time managed by a multi layer Network Management Software.
Specifically, we have built the Hardware platform using the latest generation FPGAs and processors allowing us to offer the latest protocols at highest speed interfaces. This design approach allows us to offer any service type PDH, Wavelength, OTN, Ethernet and transport over any network type OTN, Packet, or SDH SONET. In addition the user can migrate any service type to any other network type when the Operations teams of the Provider deems it appropriate. This approach allows the Service provider to never be locked into a single technology choice when making technology choices today.

Our products support industry standard interfaces and APIs for exposing the capabilities of the devices to 3rd party software through programmable interfaces. Interfaces like REST, SNMP, TMF814/CORBA and MTOSI/XML help other software platforms and SDN controllers to pull interface and network states, services provisioned, real-time status of links and various performance metrics from the devices. These interfaces are also used to push down configuration requests to the devices, thus enabling seamless integration of these devices into OSS (Operations Support Systems) or Orchestrators for end-to-end management.
