Carrier Ethernet Over SDH/SONET : ELAN04

Simplified migration to feature rich Carrier Ethernet

Overview: The ELAN04 is part of the ELAN0x series of Ethernet cards for the TJ100 Multi-service product family. The ELAN0x family enables carriers and service providers to cost-effectively add revenue-generating Carrier Ethernet services.

The ELAN04 card enables highly-scalable Ethernet switched networks through the adoption of Provider Backbone Bridges (PBB) and Provider Backbone Bridges – Traffic Engineered (PBB-TE), on SDH/SONET transport. The ELAN04 card provides fully non-blocking data switching functionality.

Ideal Environment: Residential Triple-play (Broadband Access, IP-TV, VoIP Services), Enterprise Services( Ethernet Private Lines (EPL), Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), Ethernet Private LAN (EPLAN)), 3G/ WIMAX Backhaul, Granular Rate Control and Bandwidth-on-Demand applications

Revenue generating features

  • MEF certification
  • Direct Ethernet-to-SDH/SONET mapping using built-in FE Interfaces
  • Jumbo frame support (Up to 9216 Bytes)
  • Supports auto negotiation and auto sensing
  • Supports flow control
  • Supports line rate switching for all packet sizes Provides cost-effective methods to create new Ethernet data services for incumbent or new carriers
  • Allows Service Providers to provide MEF-certified Ethernet Services
  • Ethernet Private Line (EPL)
  • Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL)
  • Ethernet Private LAN (EPLAN)
  • Ethernet Virtual Private LAN (EVPLAN)
  • Unprecedented scalability of bandwidth provisioning & differentiated bandwidth service offerings possible
  • With Jumbo frames, provide 50% more throughput and 50 % less CPU load compared to 1500 byte packets.
  • Removes need for edge routers at multiple sites connected to the network – a single enterprise router at central site is sufficient
Lower space requirements at site. Reduced network complexity leading to easier management

Strong OAM features
  • Strong OAM support that includes per VLAN & per port Loopback
  • Support for Connectivity Fault Management
Enables enhanced Network Management
  • Provides Remote management of customer premise equipment
  • Better Performance monitoring

QoS Features
  • Provides Remote management of customer premise equipment
  • Better Performance monitoring

Enables enhanced traffic Management
  • Enables Traffic metering, shaping and scheduling
  • Reduces the number of Layer 3 lookup and protocol conversions
  • Lesser latency and unpredictability leading to better Quality of Service (QoS)
Enables the service provider to offer differentiated services with different levels of QoS

Integrated Switching & Transport Functionalities
  • VLAN tagging & classification (IEEE 802.1 Q)
  • VLAN stacking (Q in Q)
  • ERPS Protection
  • Support for Link Aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad)
  • Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE 802.1 D) & Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE 802.1 w) GFP, LCAS, VCAT

Enables better Customer Management
  • Enables Customer separation
  • Facilitates re-use of VLAN’s across multiple customer
Enhanced granularity of service provisioning over the backhaul

Enhanced multicast capability which includes Static and IGMP snooping based multicast.

Sub 50 ms protection based on the new Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) scheme. This enables building large scale bandwidth optimized L2 networks, on SDH/SONET transport.

The ELAN01 cards support a maximum of 2 Gigabit Ethernet and 8 Fast Ethernet ports, each of which can be rate controlled and mapped into bundles of VC-12, VC-3 or VC-4 for end-to-end transport across the optical network.
