Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan, CTO, Tejas Networks wins Global Technovators Award from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA)
Bangalore, India, November 18, 2004 : Tejas Networks India Ltd., a leader in next-generation SDH/SONET products today announced today that The Indian Business Club at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA has conferred on Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan the “Global Indus Technovator” award in InfoTech.
The award was instituted to honor significant contributions by young innovators and entrepreneurs of South Asian descent working at the cutting edge of technology with far reaching applications.
Dr. Kumar Sivarajan is considered as one of the pioneers in the field of optical networking. A winner of numerous prestigious awards for his research and academic work, Dr. Sivarajan is also the co-author of "Optical Networks: A Practical Perspective", the most widely used textbook in the field. Apart from being a world-renowned technology innovator, Dr. Sivarajan is also providing leadership to Tejas Networks, a pioneer in the optical networking trend in India. As the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Tejas Networks, Dr. Sivarajan guides the development of the next-generation SDH/SONET optical transmission products at Tejas. The felicitation not only marks him as technovator, but also acknowledges his contributions to optical communications technology and his role in nurturing a product-centric technology venture in India.
Prior to co-founding Tejas, Kumar served as a faculty member with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, New York. A Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Sivarajan received his MS and PhD from the California Institute of Technology and is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
