Tejas Networks show cases a live network over 120KM of Optic Fibre at Convergence India 2003 to demonstrate how it can help build next-generation networks.

Delhi, India, March 11, 2003 : At Convergence India 2003, Tejas demonstrated how they enable carriers and service providers to succeed in today's challenging business environment. Tejas set up a live network over 120Km of optic fibre, demonstrating various features and capabilities of its SDH/SONET product range. Tejas promises the cost-effective deployment of Networks through:
  • A family of products comprising STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12 and STM-16/OC-48 with common traffic cards and software
  • Integrated Ethernet Support on all platforms
  • Unprecedented software intelligence for management and operation
  • Full range of redundancy options for maximum reliability and flexibility
  • Integrated cross connects on all products for cost savings and new services

Tejas Proposes to set up a live network to demonstrate its software-differentiated, next generation SDH/SONET products, to demonstrate features like
  • Point and click Provisioning (PNCP)
  • Auto restoration
  • Ethernet services including Bandwidth on Demand
  • Virtual Private Network & Customer Network Management
  • Node and topology auto-discovery
  • Ultra-long reach of the lasers (stretching to the maximum limits)

Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan speaks at Convergence India 2003
Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan, CTO, Tejas Networks was one of the eminent speakers at the Conference at Convergence India 2003. He addressed the distinguished gathering at Convergence India 2003 on 11th March, in the Second Session on “New Generation Networks & Services”.

Abstract of Talk
While customer demand for data services has begun to dominate network traffic, much of the transport network infrastructure in place all over the world is based on the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) or Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) technologies. Hence there is a need to provide cost-effective solutions for deploying data services over an SDH/SONET network infrastructure. According to a recent RHK report on Ethernet services over metro- and wide-area networks, more than 2.4 million Ethernet ports will be implemented across several types of networking systems by 2006, with 10/100 Mbps ports being the most widely deployed. To this end, we will first discuss next-generation SDH/SONET networks, which are optimized for cost-effective data transport, especially for providing Ethernet/IP services. We will discuss recent standardization efforts in this area including virtual concatenation, X.86, generic framing procedure (GFP) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS).
Traditionally, SDH/SONET networks have not adequate intelligence in the control plane to accomplish functions such as topology discovery, route computation, and automatic provisioning. We will describe the next generation of “intelligent” optical networks that is intended to address these issues. We will discuss developments in the control and management of optical networks, including the currently evolving Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) standards.

About Tejas Networks
Founded in 2000, Tejas Networks develops software-differentiated, next-generation SDH/SONET products that enable telecommunication carriers to converge traditional voice-based networks with the new data-dominated networks- all at substantial cost savings. Tejas products are being used to address the bottleneck of distributing bandwidth from the high-capacity backbones, in addition to their use in building regional backbone networks.
