Tejas’ TJ100 SDH Products used to build the First Phase of RailTel’s National Optical Network

Bangalore, India, June 26, 2003: Tejas Networks, a leading company in developing and selling optical networking products, today announced the successful deployment of its TJ100 family of products in the first phase of RailTel’s nation wide Optical Network. The first of its links between Bangalore – Secunderabad – Chennai was inaugurated today by Mr. Nitish Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Railway through Video conferencing over Ethernet. Tejas products have enabled RailTel to build a converged network architecture that uses next-generation SDH features with voice, Ethernet-over-SDH as well as network intelligence capabilities

The first phase of RailTel’s network is part of it’s plan to build a nationwide network consisting of over 35,000 kilometer of optical fiber and linking over 7000 stations within the country. During the first phase, RailTel is connecting 411 major cities and will deliver voice and data services using Tejas TJ100 multi-service, next-generation SDH equipment. The first phase covers the Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad; Kalyan-Pune-Wadi-Chennai; Guntakal-Bangalore; Wadi-Secunderabad-Guntur-Vijayawada-Vishakhaptnam sections. RailTel is planning to offer National Long Distance (NLD) as well as International Long Distance (ILD) services, in addition to various value-added voice as well as IP-based services.

Tejas TJ100 is a family of multi-service products that enable customers to build next generation SDH/SONET networks that can service voice, video and data applications. Traditional voice applications are serviced through E1/E3 interfaces while data applications can be serviced by rate-controllable 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interfaces. Intelligent Network management capabilities, such as automatic topology discovery and point-and-click provisioning are enabled by advanced software including Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) optical signaling code running on every TJ100 product.
