Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan to speak at OFC:04 - Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition ,
February 22 –24, 2004
Bangalore, India, February 22, 2004 : Tejas Networks India Ltd., a leader in next-generation SDH products announced that its Co-founder and CTO, Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan, will be speaking at the prestigious OFC:04 - Optical Fiber Communication Conference & Exposition, 2004. He is scheduled to speak on the topic of “Optical fiber networks and systems in India”.
Abstract of Talk
While customer demand for data services has begun to dominate network traffic, much of the transport network infrastructure in place all over the world is based on the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) or Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) technologies. Hence there is a need to provide cost-effective solutions for deploying data services over an SDH/SONET network infrastructure. According to a recent RHK report on Ethernet services over metro- and wide-area networks, more than 2.4 million Ethernet ports will be implemented across several types of networking systems by 2006, with 10/100 Mbps ports being the most widely deployed. To this end, we will first discuss next-generation SDH/SONET networks, which are optimized for cost-effective data transport, especially for providing Ethernet/IP services. We will discuss recent standardization efforts in this area including virtual concatenation, X.86, generic framing procedure (GFP) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS).
Traditionally, SDH/SONET networks have not adequate intelligence in the control plane to accomplish functions such as topology discovery, route computation, and automatic provisioning. We will describe the next generation of “intelligent” optical networks that is intended to address these issues. We will discuss developments in the control and management of optical networks, including the currently evolving Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) standards.
About Tejas Networks
Tejas Networks is the first Indian telecom product company, to develop next generation SDH/SONET products that enable telecom carriers to converge traditional voice-based networks with the new data-dominated networks, in a cost-effective way. Tejas has over 20 customers running live traffic in carrier-class networks in India as well as internationally. Visit Tejas Networks at http://www.tejasnetworks.com/
