The India Semiconductor Association is now the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), an effort to broadbase the organization to include also the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem.
Talking about the new charter at IESA’s Vision Summit here on Thursday, Satya Gupta, chairman of IESA, said electronics and semiconductor products were key to the growth of the ESDM industry.
“The IESA’s focus for the next three years is to increase the percentage of domestically manufactured products to at least 50%, from the current less than 35%, and facilitate the growth of at least 25 new fabless semiconductor start-ups,” he said. The industry is today excited because the government is introducing a slew of incentives to ensure that India is able to reduce its on imports of electronic hardware.
IESA also announced its annual Technovation awards. The Technovation Sarabhai Award went to Ajai Chowdhry, founder of HCL, and Sanjay Nayak, CEO & MD of Tejas Networks.
